Frequently asked questions
Factual answers about Onguard products, patrol workflows, pricing, support and privacy in South Africa.
What is Onguard and who does it serve?
Onguard is a South African patrol-management and security-operations technology provider. Its products support security companies and operational teams with patrol verification, communication, monitoring, reporting, attendance and staff scheduling.
How does electronic patrol management work?
A patrol route is configured with scheduled activity and checkpoints. A compatible Onguard device records patrol events, and authorised users can review patrol completion, missed checkpoints, alerts and reports through the monitoring tools.
What can the OG-66 patrol radio do?
The OG-66 supports cellular push-to-talk, dual-SIM connectivity, NFC patrol-point scanning, GPS location context, time-and-attendance workflows, configured monitoring alerts, a physical panic button and Stay Awake functionality.
How is cellular push-to-talk different from traditional radio?
The OG-66 carries push-to-talk voice over supported cellular networks instead of relying on a local radio repeater. Coverage and availability still depend on the mobile networks and local conditions where the device is used.
What is the difference between GPS context and NFC patrol verification?
GPS provides wider movement and location context for a device. An NFC checkpoint scan creates a specific record that the device reached and scanned a configured patrol point, so the two records serve different purposes.
Can Onguard monitor patrol schedules and missed checkpoints?
Patrol schedules and routes can be configured through the Onguard platform. Controllers can review recorded patrol activity, completions, missed patrol events and configured alerts in the monitoring interface.
How does guard time and attendance work?
The OG-66 supports clock-in and clock-out workflows using NFC attendance tags. Authorised users can review attendance activity and generate attendance reports through the platform.
How do panic buttons, configured alerts and SOS workflows work?
The OG-66 has a physical panic button, while a configured distress patrol point can send a silent alarm when scanned. Alert handling depends on the site's configured workflow and the response procedure established by the security operation.
How does Stay Awake work?
Stay Awake runs prompts at configured times and requires a guard acknowledgement. A missed response can create a configured alert for operational follow-up, and activity can be included in reports. It is available as a standalone device and as functionality on the OG-66.
What is the MKIII patrol system?
MKIII is Onguard's older RFID-based patrol system. It records checkpoint activity for structured guard tours and supports reporting through the Onguard web interface. Its Multi Guard feature supports up to six guards with individual routes and break times.
What does Guard Rostering do?
Guard Rostering is a web-based staff-scheduling module for planning guards, sites and working hours. It helps teams review duplicate assignments, overtime, staffing gaps and available relief staff.
Do Onguard body cameras provide live video or push-to-talk?
No. Onguard body cameras are wearable video-and-audio recording devices for documenting patrols, incidents and interactions for later review. They do not provide push-to-talk, remote live viewing or live video streaming.
Which integrations does Onguard support?
The public site documents connected workflows between Onguard devices and Onguard's own monitoring, reporting, attendance and rostering tools. It does not publish a verified list of third-party integrations, so specific integration requirements should be confirmed with Onguard.
Where can I find equipment prices, rentals and service charges?
The maintained price list separates equipment purchase prices from monthly rentals, lists all values in South African rand and states that amounts exclude VAT. Device-only prices do not include additional services, which must be confirmed with Onguard sales. Guard Rostering has no published price.
Does Onguard provide training and demonstrations?
Onguard publishes platform tutorials and provides contact routes for demonstrations, sales questions and technical support. Use the contact page to discuss training or arrange a product demonstration.
How does Onguard handle personal information under POPIA?
Onguard's published customer privacy notice explains the personal information it collects, how it is used and disclosed, security practices, access and correction rights, and how to contact Onguard about privacy requests.
