Monitoring proactively vs reactively

In this guide, we explore how to optimize your monitoring process using the controller dashboard. Proactive monitoring provides a comprehensive view of all device activity, from patrol starts and ends to scanned points, ensuring you’re always informed. On the other hand, reactive monitoring simplifies your workflow by focusing only on critical alerts, such as incomplete patrols or panic button activations. By toggling between "All Signals" and "Alert Signals Only," you can easily adapt your approach to suit busy periods or detailed site analysis, helping you maintain efficiency and focus where it matters most.

Step 1: Understand Monitoring in the Controller Dashboard

• The Monitoring Stack displays all the instructions and signals coming through from the device in real-time.
• These signals include everything from patrol start and end times to specific alert notifications.

Step 2: Decide Your Monitoring Approach

• Proactive Monitoring : Involves keeping an eye on all the signals and data coming through. This allows you to stay fully informed about all device activity.
• Reactive Monitoring : Focuses only on critical or alert signals, which simplifies your view and helps you prioritize urgent matters.

Step 3: Navigate to the Monitoring Stack

• Open the monitoring stack in the controller dashboard where all device instructions and signals are displayed.

Step 4: Adjust Signal View

• Locate the toggle button on the left-hand side of the monitoring stack.
• The toggle options include:
  • All Signals : Displays all incoming signals, including patrol starts, ends, and scanned points.
  • Alert Signals Only : Filters out non-critical information, showing only important alerts.

Step 5: Switch to Alert Signals (Reactive Monitoring)

• Click the toggle button and select Alert Signals Only.
• The monitoring stack will now display only critical alerts, such as:
  • Incomplete patrols.
  • Panic button activations.

Step 6: When to Use Reactive Monitoring

• This approach is ideal when monitoring multiple sites or during busy periods.
• It allows you to focus on critical incidents without being overwhelmed by routine messages like patrol completions or point scans.

Step 7: Return to Proactive Monitoring if Needed

• If you need a complete overview of device activity, switch back to All Signals using the toggle button.
